Over the years the name of the village changed from Los Sauces (the willows) to Lasauses on some maps. This happened, according to Manual D. Salazar, because "in the late 1800's, Juan Naranjo filed a petition to obtain a Post Office and correctly spelled Los Sauces in the petition. When Charlie Brickenstien sent the application, he erroneously spelled the name of the town as La Sauces. The government accepted the feminine prefix to a masculine name, and unfortunately the error has never been corrected."
