re: Wearing a Tápalo at the NM State Legislature

Yesterday was a day set aside at the New Mexico State Legislature to highlight our Hispanic culture in New Mexico. As a member of La Sociedad Folklórica I was one of eleven women in our organization that modeled garments from our vintage clothes collection dating back to the 1800's. I was very honored to be able to model an old fashioned Spanish tápalo (a black fringed shawl so often worn by older women) as in the days of "Life in Los Sauces." I hope to eventually post some pictures on the website. Mother mentions tápalos on page 76 of our book.
